I’ve been in Scotland for the past 10 days doing a little road trip around the Highlands, Islands and finally to the city. Our first stop was a little village called Taynuilt. Hardly to my surprise, there was no mention of vegan here nor is the highlands. Since we had self catering cottages, this was hardly a problem for a family of avid cooks. Only the lack of spices in the draws that concerned the spice happy foodies. When we were tired of washing up and wanted someone to make us food instead, we retreated for the town near by, Oban.

Oban is a beautiful seaside town that is famous for it’s Distillery and fish and chips. It’s lucky I can eat potatoes and whiskey – generally speaking. From here we left for the Islands on the west coast: Staffa, Mull and Iona. Each island was beautiful in its own different way and we were graced with gorgeous weather to compliment the breath taking scenery. Driving through the rural areas of The Isle of Mull made me dream of a little cottage where I can live in peace, be self sufficient and grow my own veg. Perhaps one day when i’m less attached to city life and paying people to make me food.. ha!
Aside for the busy adventures in and around Oban, I tirelessly paced back and forth watching the GPS on my phone take me to the completely the wrong places before finally finding The Little Potting Shed. This sweet little café in Oban is the only fully vegetarian café in the town, which has an extensive, mouth-watering vegan options. There is an option for every dietary requirement!
Be healthy like Mum was with hummus, pitta, salad and vegan slaw or not like me with the vegan cheesy homity pie and carrot cake. I’m not sorry.

Yes guys, that is vegan. If I lived in Oban, I think I would be using up a considerable amount of money sat at this café everyday.
With a cabinet filled with cakes, you can satisfy your sweet tooth too. Chocolate Fudge Cake can’t be missed!

If you are ever in Oban, make sure to visit this delightful café, whether you’re vegan, veggie or not. This is The Hungry Herbivores top recommendation for Oban’s food scene.

ღ we too visited The Little Potting Shed in Oban, whilst on holiday on the west coast of Scotland, and were so enamoured of the place that we visited four times in one week !! ღ we were actually also delighted in the many other cafes and restaurants, we visited on our holiday, that offered vegan options…..ღ Poppies Café and Garden Centre, north of Oban, served a delicious pear & walnut salad…..ღ Castle Stalker View on the road between Oban and Fort William, served a wonderful carrot & seed loaf with salad…..ღ Kilmartin Museum & Café, south of Oban, served a vegan burger or a beautiful mushroom focaccia…..ღ when we were on Mull we found a café and gift shop in a converted church in Tobermory, which served the most amazing vegan sweet potato soup…..ღ I always take my own vegan spread and vegan mayonnaise when eating out, but on this holiday I hardly needed them !! ღ ॐ ღ
